August Greene, "Optimistic" ft. Brandy

Rapper Common, pianist/producer Robert Glasper and drummer/producer Karriem Riggins’ “Letter To The Free” was one of the highlights of Ava DuVernay’s essential 13th documentary. The track was a soulful, poignant reflection on the Black struggle. The inspirational track was so well-received that it even won an Emmy. The trio is looking to carry on that energy as August Greene, a newly formed group announced today. August Greene’s eponymous debut album will be released on March 9th via Amazon Original.
We won’t have to wait that long for new music however, as they also dropped “Optimistic,” which features Brandy. The energetic, jazzy track lets the youth know, “you can win if you keep your head to the sky,” over active, hip-hop-influenced drums. Common, Glasper and Riggins are longtime friends, and look to turn their personal chemistry into a strong project. We’ll get a glimpse of their live show next week when they perform at Glasper’s Grammy performance at New York City’s Highline Ballroom.
