It seems over a year of making the rounds with tape label favorites like 100% Silk and Moon Glyph has paid off: In a week, Minnaepolis/New York “post-band” (dubbed as such by their new label 1080p) Beat Detectives will release a 10-track cassette called ASSCOP, which follows the release of its headily funky lead single “Illusion of a Band”. Today, they're premiering a new single, “Summer in the City,” which kicks off with a radio station toggle sound effect before settling on a sexy house beat amid a warp-field of vocal samples, slowed down and dubbed-(many times)over and ranging in sound from the familiar to the otherwordly. Such a hyper-layered subliminal messaging approach to beatcraft often results in a sloppy mash, but not in the case of this refined new track.
Pre-orders are going on now for the May 6 cassette release of Asscop on 1080p. Stream “Summer In The City” below.
