BK One is not just Brother Ali's DJ

Post Author:

BK One has the honor of DJing for one of the finest MCs in hip hop. Night after night, tour stops around the world, Brother Ali gives gracious respect to his personal DJ and it's deserved. BK One is unflappable behind the decks.

But the test of the great DJs is to do more than be live support. It seems as Brother Ali dragged BK One around the globe, the kid was collecting records for his own gain, even breaking out on his own to explore Central and South America. With the help of producer Benzilla, BK One has put his findings in Brazil to use and created Rádio Do Canibal.

The title Rádio Do Canibal refers to the Brazilian poet Oswald de Andrade's “Cannibal Manifesto.” Written in 1928, the poem described Brazil as drawing its power from the absorption of other cultures — sounds like it could double as a hip hop manifesto. The absorption does not stop at the Brazilian influenced sound, BK One enlists an all-star line up to provide further life to his funky beats. The record features appearances by Scarface, Slug, Black Thought, Brother Ali, Raekwon, Murs, Phonte, Haiku D' Etat (Aceyalone, Myka 9 & Abstract Rude), Blueprint, P.O.S., The Grouch, I Self Devine, Toki Wright, Aby Wolf and The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble.
