In between taking selfless with Nardwuar and Miley Cyrus, Cassie Ramone has been busy recording her debut album The Time Has Come. Indeed, the time certainly has come for Ramone, “the most underrated person in music” to formally release a solo record, and from first listen of the lead single, “Hangin On,” it resembles neither a Vivian Girls nor The Babies track. Instead, it’s tinged with melancholic folk nostalgia and a vulnerability that Ramone rarely expresses in song. But as soon as Ramone’s trademark fractured and undulating voice begins, it is impossible to disassociate from her lo-fi past.
Ramone’s PR guy and guest bassist Ariel Pink has succinctly explained the details of the album: “This is Cassie’s first record. She used to sing and play guitar in Vivian Girls. She recorded these songs by herself over the last year or so. She hopes you like the record. Goodbye.”
The Time Has Come drops August 26 on Loglady Records. Pre-order it here.
