L.A. producer shares stunning debut LP & impressive drone-shot video
Up-and-coming L.A. producer CGI dog has already blessed us with a handful of excellent singles so far this year – glitchy, vapory, shimmering electronic soundscapes abound. And now today he’s unveiled his long-awaited, stunning debut album Replacer – in addition to the gorgeous drone-shot video for opening track “Morning Light.”
The video for “Morning Light” was compiled entirely with aerial drone footage – shot with deft fish-eye lens-filled aplomb by Jordan Warburg. The clip takes place on a deserted ranch adjacent to CGI dog’s childhood home – highlighting dreamy pastoral vibes and intense feelings of existential isolation to go along with the track’s effervescent and serene sonic palette. Trevor Crown’s meditative guitar layers round out this spirited album opener.
Meanwhile, Replacer is a colorful fever dream of a debut LP, featuring a diverse mix of digital and analog textures. From the propulsive, poignant anthem “Wish 2” to the flickering and ambient “Where We Were Before,” the album runs through the full gamut of sound and emotion. Impressively, CGI dog wrote, recorded, mixed and mastered the album himself (while also calling on a few close collaborators). Ultimately, there’s a deeply honest and personal DIY touch to the whole thing. It’s ear candy through and through. You can stream it in full below.
