In discussing the writing process of Ritualize, Lushlife said much of it was done on flights from Philadelphia to Los Angeles. Thirty-thousand feet of relative isolation, to look upon the Powaqqatsi below. That impermanence of habitat removes Ritualize from regionalism, even in Lushlife’ proud boasts of being Philly-born in a distinctive East Coast flow. CSLSX understands Lushlife’s in flux station. Their production compliments his instability and we find CSLSX in this mind state once again on the “Penn Station to Philly Mix”.
The industrial depravity of the Rust Belt informs the “Penn Station to Philly Mix”, as CSLSX opens with Lower Dens activated “To Die In LA”. Mention of the far off west is misleading, as Lower Dens inspire movement rather than province. Migration is constant on CSLSX’s mix as the shifting terrain outside the train window galvanizes the selections.
Andrew of CSLSX offered the following words on the mix:
This mix was born on a train from New York to Philly, coinciding with the arc of the trip through my window. It starts with the sun setting on the NYC skyline, followed by a long stretch of industrial sprawl. Slowly the window goes black, punctuated by red and white lights streaking past, until finally the Philly skyline comes into view, illuminating everything.
Best,
Andrew
Lushlife’s Ritualize is out now on Western Vinyl.
