Dam-Funk renews MC Eiht's hood pass

Dam-Funk's “Hood Pass Intact” is one of the most thumpin'est, bumpin'est west coast bass grooves to hit the sunny state in years. If you had stock in woofers and hydrolics, “Hood Pass Intact,” might have accounted for the best numbers you've seen since The Chronic dropped.

You know it's fucking on when you hear MC Eiht's “G'yeah” call. Eiht always struck me as the thoroughest dude during the G-Funk heydays with his thick drawl. His slow deliberate style of speech emphasized his gangster habits – watch Menace 2 Society to see what I'm talking about. “Hood Pass Intact” is quintessential Eiht territory. There needs to be a video with Dam, Eiht and a fleet of low riders three-wheel cruising down Crenshaw – like the good old days of rap videos. Speaking of good old days, “Hood Pass Intact” is not the first Dam-Funk and Eiht song. Digging back to Eiht's Tha8t'z Gangsta record, Dam-Funk produced “Look Up” and “What We About”.

The “Hood Pass Intact” remix is part of a maxi-single which also features Steve Arrington of SLAVE – a Dayton, OH funk band from the 70s-80s that swooned the ladies with jams like “Just A Touch Of Love” and “Watching You”. Arrington accompanies Dam on “4 My Homies,” which will is a precursor to a full-length collaborative project. If Dam and Arrington can write just one song as funky as “Just A Touch of Love,” I might declare it an instant funk classic.
