Dopplerkind – “Bleep Bloop”

L.A. musician conjures spellbinding synth odyssey

Josh Menashe is one of the creative forces behind Frankie and the Witch Fingers, the L.A. psych rock marauders whose latest LP Monsters Eating People Eating Monsters… is one of the best albums of 2020. Beyond that he’s a jack of all trades, a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist capable of producing incredible music in a wide swatch of genres. He’s proving that again with his latest sonic detour, a solo synth-driven side project dubbed Dopplerkind.

The music of Dopplerkind is cosmic and serene. The project’s lead single is called “Bleep Bloop,” and the title couldn’t be more fitting. Here, Menashe fastens swelling digital layers – glitchy bleeps and celestial synth tones – into a short and sweet cinematic canvas. The track was composed entirely on a Moog Grandmother, and features vocal and synth contributions from Stonefield bassist Holly Findlay, who emailed her parts from her native Australia. The track arrives with a vibrant and meditative video clip – a collage of rural locales in the north of Spain. The footage was shot by Menashe and edited by Angela Ranedo. You can give it a watch and get lost in the dreamy tapestry of “Bleep Bloop” below.
