Drab Majesty – “Ellipsis”

Los Angeles alt-goth duo Drab Majesty are gearing up for the release of their third album Modern Mirror, out July 12 via Dais Records. This week, they dropped a gorgeous, retro-infused video for the album’s powerful lead single “Ellipsis.” It’s an epic five-minute track balancing their sleek ’80s new wave influences with their hard-charging, garage-y shoegaze impulses. The track’s whirring lo-fi guitar chords and shimmering darkwave synths collide to haunting effect, while singer Deb Demure’s brooding voice gives the track its a gloomy, futuristic touch.

“Ellipsis” is the first single from Drab Majesty since 2017’s “Oak Wood,” which they released as a tribute to Them Are Us Too member Cash Warren, who tragically passed away in the Ghost Ship fire. Furthermore, the music video is shot in grainy, VHS-style lo-res and features retro visuals including kaleidoscopic silhouettes, lush animation, and staticky overlays flanking the duo’s performance. Modern Mirror is the follow-up to their brilliant sophomore effort The Demonstration; you can pre-order that HERE.
