“No Name (Danny Kane’s) Blues” is the smell of smoke on a crust leather jacket, a dull red light in the bathroom of a biker bar. It’s desolate highway grotesque cut without the cloying nostalgia.
The first single off of Drainolith‘s upcoming release Hysteria, “No Name (Danny Kane’s Blues)” is almost a spoken word piece. Alexander Moskos (of Montreal’s AIDS Wolf) recites lines about drowning in a river off the “island of Montreal” in a sinister baritone over slow steady percussion and a cutting, surprisingly clean blues guitar riff. Drainolith’s world is noisy and dissonant, as expected from an AIDS Wolf alum, especially since much of this record was recorded with true next level noise heads Nate Young (Wolf Eyes) and Neil Hagerty (Royal Trux). Moskos is a guitarist and the guitar is the heart of the song, its driving loops forming the gnarled backbone of Drainolith’s haunted mythmaking.
Hysteria is out June 2 on NNA Tapes.
