San Diego musician drops captivating indie ballad
Drew Pelisek has been a favorite artist of ours for a while now, going back to his 2018 debut Rook Plus and 2019’s In Over Time (which cracked our 50 Best Albums list of that year). Last week, the San Diego indie rocker dropped a demo for “Try A Little Harder,” a captivating new ballad that features gorgeous melodies and harmonies.
It’s a short and sweet track that floats via pretty acoustic riffs and swelling vocal harmonies, which give an extra layer of poignancy to Pelisek’s lyrics, and slight pastoral folk vibes akin to Fleet Foxes and Big Thief. “Try A Little Harder” is another excellent solo effort from Pelisek, who in addition to cutting his teeth in bands like CHON, Weatherbox, and The Fall Of Troy, currently plays drums in the San Diego rock outfit Positioner.
