Fergus & Geronimo always pump quirk into their tracks by the gallon, and with “No Parties” they are taking a pretty simple post-punk melody – catchy, at that – and singing the verses in a thick Cockney drawl. I haven't heard someone imitate a British accent in song since this one girl in choru class who loved horses and Ann of Green Gables used to try and alter her “soprano”. But if F&G didn't do it, this would just be a kind of normal song, albeit one with a fun little Devo-esque keyboard line. And we couldn't have that. That would be awful.
Fergus & Geronimo, “No Parties”
Fergus & Geronimo's Funky Was the State of Affairs is our August 7 on Hardly Art. They go on a little jaunt with Jaill right after that; here are the dates, which include the album's release party where they will perform with a 10-piece band.
