Heems premiered a new video today over at Fader for the track “Pop Song (Games)”, and innocuously dropped a new track at the same time. “Coconut Oil (London)” is his self-proclaimed latest in a “series of household Indian items (Parle G, Bisleri, now Parachute).” Though laced with his typical bravado (“I will fucking kill you / it ain’t fucking nothing”), Heems’ nostalgia for the familiar items he grew with is evident in the chorus of the The Last Skeptik-produced track as he confesses he just wants “a bad Punjabi girl to put coconut oil in my hair.”
For those of you unfamiliar with household Indian items, you may be getting the chance to see these and more from the everyday life of the Indian-American rapper, as it was announced yesterday that FOX has given a script commitment to Eat Pray Thug, a single-camera comedy from Fresh Off The Boat co-executive producer Sanjay Shah, based on Heems life growing up in Queens and his relationship with his parents. Set to star Utkarsh Ambudkar (Pitch Perfect, Barbershop 3), this marks the first of what Heems is hoping will be many more capital ventures. He’s now accepting proposals to help leverage his personal brand into ventures targeting millenials specifically in South Asian markets. “Serious inquiries only.”
