Itasca, “Nature’s Gift”

Post Author:

Kayla Cohen is LA-via-New York State’s Itasca, a folk guitar solo outfit about to release a new full-length album, Unmoored By The Wind. Since moving to LA in 2012, she’s released a handful of limited-press CD-Rs and cassette tapes of the album Grace Riders On The Road. She records at home, but with the full expanse of the California outdoors breezing through her songwriting process, as is especially evident on new single “Nature’s Gift”. If you enjoyed warming your hands on Angel Olsen’s Burn Your Fire For No Witness, then you will probably welcome Itasca’s fall release with open arms, employing a similar hushed hollowness, emotional vulnerability, and invisible production hand. With all T’s and fingerpicks pronounced, she sings, “Now I’m sitting here, thinking about, how can these angels help me out,” uncertain of where her prayers will lead.

Unmoored By The Wind comes out October 14 on Matt Mondanile’s (Real Estate, Ducktails) New Images label, offering pre-orders now. Stream “Nature’s Gift” below.
