I'm not sure if we've ever heard an unaldulterated vocal from Ms. Halo, and the rawness almost sounds like its own new kind of effect amongst the pulsating pianoscapes of her world. Normally Laurel operates in a slightly higher register, but she puts that voice in as her backing vocals, putting a new throatiness front and center. This is the closing track from her new record Quarantine, out June 5 in the U.S. on Hyperdub. Will the whole thing be such a tearjerker? I hope so.
