Laurel Halo took Grimes' haunting “Heartbeats” and made it into a spooky ambient dirge that unfolds slowly over nearly four minutes without ever fully revealing itself. The original has that kind of beat sense that makes me wonder if the next thing sensitive girls and guys are going to do with their synth pop is channel trip hop. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
