Beginning with a Daniel Johnston-y acoustic melody, LVL UP might have you convinced that they're all soft-lilting melodies and freak-folk, until a torrential guitar chord breaks through the bedroom and makes for stronger stuff. “Cross The Sea” is as much a tribute to Doug Martsch as it is to Stephen Malkmus but it's not all born out of 90s nostalgia—there is a hefty dose of stronger mettle, as well.
