Tel Aviv’s multi-talented indie/folk singer-songwriter Maytal Michaeli has been hard at work on the I Am Project, a concept that came to fruition when she realized it was time to end a relationship she was in. Though we can’t expect the full project’s release until January of 2017, we do have a new track called “Heart” to premiere for you.
Smooth, serene, like water falling on a soft surface. The song begins “You wouldn’t have the heart to leave me / You wouldn’t have the heart,” and you’re transported to a place where you love bends and breaks you. It’s about timing, the intense want to fix something and not having the capacity to, and the idea of closure.
“‘Heart’ is a song of yearning,” explains Michaeli. “The song was written a few months after my mother passed away. We didn’t get a chance to say goodbye because her death was very sudden. I’m expressing the pain of losing, the feeling of no closure, the search for a way to say goodbye even now- through the music. ‘Heart’ came straight from my heart, in a very difficult moment of grief.”
The I Am Project is due out in Spring 2017. Keep up with Maytal on Facebook.
