Boosie makes the best sad southern rap songs in the business right now. That's really something when you consider how anti-emotion southern rap, and rap in general, can be at times. Young Buck's career took a nosedive after audio of him weeping to 50 on the phone was released, but somehow Boosie can make songs about feeling alone or having suicidal thoughts and still deliver club hits like “Wipe Me Down” and “Zoom” without anyone crying foul.
And you know what? When Boosie does his somber, everyday-depressed-guy tracks he reminds me a lot of Slug from Atmosphere. Tell me Slug couldn't have provided a great, and very appropriate, third verse to “Never Give Up”. It even sounds like Ant made the beat. Maybe Lil Boosie is just Slug's alter-ego attempt at getting that dirty south money. I'm onto something here.
