Papertwin, “Fish on the Sand” (George Harrison cover)

Post Author:

It is a rare occasion when a musician has the guts to cover the late great George Harrison, but Brooklyn’s Papertwin has bravely stepped up to the task. The trio’s decision to cover “Fish on the Sand” from Harrison’s 1987 album Cloud Nine was inevitable.

According to the band, “The song is off an old George Harrison album that Max [Decker] found on the floor of his dad’s truck when he was a kid. It quickly became his favorite album until he grew older and heard every other album he did. This was an attempt at reliving some of that blissful ignorance.” Since Harrison’s original was largely synth-driven, Papertwin’s minimalist approach works wonderfully.

Max Decker, Nick Shopa, and Francis Cardinale have been making mellow synth-pop together since 2009. Their first album, Vox Humana, was released on June 17, 2014.
