Pig Destroyer, “The Octagonal Stairway”

Pig Destroyer, Adult Swim Single

In the wake of the Pullman Strike in 1894 the government had to do something about the low morale surrounding its decision to beat and in some instances murder railroad strikers in Chicago so that U.S. mail distribution would not be disrupted. Grover Cleveland knew the power of a three-day weekend, particularly one that arrives in the dwindling days of summer.

Somehow debuting a Pig Destroyer track as we enter another Labor Day weekend is uniquely fitting to the history of the holiday. Whether Adult Swim created this alignment on purpose or by accident, we are grateful. The third-to-last intallment in the phenomenal singles series, which has seen the likes of Dan Deacon, Autre Ne Veut, and Lightning Bolt (that song is still addictive as f*ck), “The Octagonal Stairway” comes with the only barely visible album artwork so far: perhaps it's a callout to summer's final end. Turn this one on and then turn it up loud, you'll feel like you're riding the dark gnar-wave straight into your three days off. All thanks are due to Pig Destroyer and Adult Swim, and Grover Cleveland for knowing how bad we'd need this over a hundred years later.
