When PremRock announces himself as the “plain dealing villain” on “Lens”, from his A Clean, Well-Lighted Place album, the backing production from Quelle Chris solidifies his claims and vitriol with a matched caliber of villainous instrumentation. Complimentary in their sinister characteristics, PremRock could have left it unparalleled, but he gave rap-peer Zilla Rocca a crack at it.
On the Zilla Rocca remix, the production is stripped to plastic bucket production and the synths that seem lifted from The Warriors score. Quelle Chris’ production imitated the keys of the subway stations and Zilla Rocca’s rework remains faithful to the original’s pastiche. The lens is the same, the only change is the viewer who’s slipped in a token.
PremRock’s A Clean, Well-Lighted Place is out now on Bandcamp. Also have a look at PremRock’s personal collection of tour photos in our Shot By The Band series.
