Thraxxhouse’s very own Key Nyata is back with a new project called RAYNE Blck, whose first release “Black (Rain Returns)” explores the Seattle-based rapper’s supernatural side.
Melancholic and carefully measured, his laid-back flow is run through a watery vocoder with Lo Motion-esque production for a sinister, spidery feel. Rickety, rat-a-tat percussion mixed with echoey synth effects also make for an otherworldly vibe that’s woozy and thick in its sludgy vibe.
And despite being filled with his trademark pitch shifts and hazy-dazy production, it’s still an interesting change of literal pace that toes the line between the spit and the spook. A real haunted head-bobber from one of rap’s rising.
