While listening to Schoolboy Q's Setbacks record during a dish-washing session, I considered the criminal possibility that Q might get slighted by a lot of publications' “Best Of” lists since it was released so early in the year. I vowed to make certain that IMPOSE would never forget Setbacks. Schoolboy Q must have had a similar thought because he was in the reminding mood yesterday on Twitter, apologizing for his reclusiveness of late. He's tucked away penning the lyrics to his next album Habits & Contradictions, which puts an image in our mind of Q sporting a wool cardigan in a log cabin in Montana, sitting at a typewriter with a blunt in hand, pondering how he's going to follow up songs like “Druggy's With Hoes”.
On “My Hatin' Joint” Schoolboy Q opens with a reference to the Old Spice commercials as an introduction to his game spittin'. It's a “leave your man/ ditch the zero, get with a hero” joint or as Q frames the argument it's a “see that nigga there is a loser, besides my dick is a ruler” joint.
