In July Shabazz Palaces will follow-up its masterful debut, Black Up, with a sophomore record that, on paper, looks to delve even deeper into a celestial exploration via mythological origins with 18 tracks collected into seven suites.
Titled Jese Majesty, Shabazz Palaces remain of their own creation, on a celestial plane designed to honor muses, enrich the black spirit, destroy the artificial, and convey universal truth. On the recently released “#CAKE”, taken from the “Pleasure Milieu” suite, Palaceer Lazaro and Fly Guy 'Dai manipulate trap snares and Swizz Beats-esque synths into their celestial spectrum of tribal zen and futurism. “#CAKE” is Shabazz Palaces celebrating the finer things in life, a tradition among rappers, though Fly Guy 'Dai asks forgiveness for the pleasures sought, knowing the milieu is not without its toxins.
Shabazz Palaces' Lese Majesty is out July 29 on Sub Pop.
