Korean-American musician explores lush shoegaze on glorious new single
Quickly becoming one of the most exciting names in his genre, boundary-defying artist Suave Punk has been on the forefront of modern shoegaze the past few years. Released via one of our favourite new labels Pack Records, new single “Petals” builds from thick, lo-fi guitar layers and peaks with a melodic and haunting high-pitched vocal. The track quickly introduces a glorious guitar solo that ties the whole project together with incredible skill.
Suave Punk (real name Justin Kim) is an all-around creative who has lived a nomadic lifestyle, moving from Wisconsin to Florida and to southern California before ultimately settling in Los Angeles. His musical journey has been a consistent ride, and the new single gives us serious My Bloody Valentine vibes.
On the new single, Suave Punk shared:
“A song born from the human struggle; brought by things you can’t have, people who come and go. Sometimes the thought of it can send you spiraling as the more you try to hold on, the more it fades from you. But understanding this is a step in the right direction; it’s the first step. And I think that’s what Petals is essentially: a celebration of that realization.”
