Devoting energy to bands of yesteryear's glory is leading to a undesired packaging of my nostalgia. So with the release of The Beatles Rock Band video game and Pitchfork's daily cumshots over Pavement shows in 2010, The Dead Trees timing of “Rayna” could not be better.
The Dead Trees are my golden opportunity to listen to Pavement and The Beatles without plucking a plastic guitar controller or clicking the refresh button for an hour at Ticketmaster.com. The demo stage of “Rayna” is fleeting escapism, but it holds promise in the next Dead Trees record, in all its overtly derivative splendor.
