The Gaslamp Killer is on a quiet spree this year. After building a Turkish temple of psychedelia for Gonjasufi's stoned ruminations on A Sufi And A Killer, he's wedged one last collaboration into his all-too-brief Death Gate EP as a possible reminder that yes, he did that shit.
“When I'm In Awe” is “Klowds” from A Sufi And A Killer, but with an extra eight seconds of warped cave distortion as the outro amplifies into deafening reverberation. The Death Gate EP is a glorified tour CD that's received proper release so we don't dismiss it as such. The length is insufficient, the Gonjasufi overlap is confusing, but the four remaining tracks are cut from the same rawhide and smoke rings that has propelled GLK to his current status of touring beat-stoner extraordinaire. Our advice: Bump this shit on your way to the voting booth and cast that Prop 19 vote with a burn hole in the ballot from your doobie.
