What has Tkay Maidza not done since her Switch Tape EP debuted and stamped her on the Australian music scene? She’s performed at numerous festivals and landed a feature in Australian Vogue. All the while, Maidza has been cultivating anticipation for a formal debut album. We’re one step closer to Tkay, which she recently announced would be dropping October 28th.
Not only did she announce her album, she released “Carry On,” the first single from the upcoming project. She clearly had fun harmonizing and rhyming over the fun electro-hip-hop fusion—and bringing along Atlien Killer Mike for the ride. Maidza darts over the track’s chunky, dense drum work with a swift, winding flow. The song’s chorus is playful and chant-ready, just the mix that the sugary production needed.
Killer Mike augments the beat with a strutting appearance, playing the big brother role . Understandably, he’s not politically charged on this one, instead telling Maidza to shake the haters off. You can listen to “Carry On” below.
