Andy Stott is an undeniable innovator, especially when he gets his hands on something a little outside of his wheelhouse. In this remix of the Tricky track “Valentine”, a previously slow but sexy avant-rap track based around a “My Funny Valentine” sample, Stott advances the song beyond its already eerie temperament to turn into something even slightly evil, unhinged. It's broad and dark and flows like black blood with no purpose or path. It's a heightened, cinematic listen, and maybe not for your sunny afternoon, but definitely for when you feel like going half-massacre in your head.
Tricky just announced some tour dates, which you can check out below the track, and pick up a splatter vinyl version of this almost painful, sadomasochistic remix through False Idols on September 16.
