Much like French accents and adultery, Scottish brogues can get away with stuff that normal American Joes couldn't dream of, at least when it comes to pop songs. Case in point, Arab Strap can fly that vocal track high above the rest of his bummer acoustic guitar strums and subtle orchestrations and you'll be pulled straight down into the gutter with him, not once musing on what'd be like if the Devendras of the world pulled the same mixing habits. On that note, we'd say the same for Twilight Sad and this industrial-pop ache, the first track to stream off an upcoming 2012 album, but only in the sense that if the man wailing pleadingly over these instrumentals had an American accent, we'd have made it about twenty seconds into the thing before flipping to Bauhaus.
