Couldn’t make it to Burning Man? Fear not, Scott Hansen, pka Tycho, brought a little piece to the Internet by recording his a.m. DJ set on August 29. Entitled “Black Sunrise”, Tycho was fittingly enlisted to usher in the rising sun on the desert horizon with a two hour set.
Tycho meticulously documents his set on Soundcloud, noting the set began at approximately 5:40 a.m. and not long after he spun Photek’s “Pharoah”, the first break of sunrise was seen at 6:20 a.m. While “Black Sunrise” sprinkles in a few Tycho originals, the early-riser’s mix is an expansive documentation of artists that share Tycho’s phosphorescent electronica. Hansen mixes in Bibio, Ulrich Schnauss, Boards of Canada, and Washed Out, never breaking the rhythmic energizing of feeling daybreak warm the body.
Tycho’s Awake is out now on Ghostly International.
