viz///e, “You've Got to Go”

Erik Visnyak, known to us as the guitarist for San Diego band, Snakesuit, whose EP came out last spring, seems to have wasted no time getting back to work with his own impressive solo project as viz///e. The new self-titled LP is out, with rich production credits belonging to Keith Sweaty (aka Keith Milgaten), who recently remixed “Daydream” by So Many Wizards. The LP's standout second track, “You've Got To Go”, makes an early play for your emotions with a short but stern strings segment that repeats intermittently, weaving through Erik's and his female singer's sparring vocals; are they lovers or the male and female counterparts of one personality? Hard to tell, but the escalating drama in the song has the appropriate gravitas to score a modern-day film adaptation of a Shakespeare play. The song's moving repetitiveness results in a compelling narrative.
