John McCowen (Clarinet), Pat Keen (Bass), Phillip Sudderberg (Drums), and Rob Jacobs (Guitar, Vocals), make up Wei Zhongle, a unique indie alternative band from Chicago. The quartet have a new single called “Wave”to hype their new album titled The Operators. This single embodies Wei Zhongle’s sound to a T, involving multiple elements and surprises around every corner.
One of the unique sounds that I’m talking about is that of a distorted, synthy sounding clarinet that pitches up and down constantly. Almost as if it is a “wave”, John hosts his clarinet solo around the 1:20 mark, and is a nice segue to more keyboard followed by elegant vocals provided by Jacobs. Overall, the single is a fun introduction to this new project.
