On December 9th, Los Angeles “surf disco” outfit Year of Suns – a new project from songwriter Chris Matthews – releases its debut EP Songs For Silence. We’ve got your exclusive first listen to the 5 track work in its entirety right here.
An intricate and fascinatingly beautiful work, Songs For Silence is brimming with vocals that – at times – crack with emotion. And that’s understandable, as Matthews’ writing journey with Year of Suns stems from his very real encounters with loss. The EP has been a long time coming, and it’s obvious to see the remarkable effort that has been put into it. It makes you feel. It’s a true work of art that pulls you into its world simply by being itself. It’s absolutely enrapturing to enjoy on a quiet afternoon alone in your home, and – judging by the title – that might be what it was made for.
“Songs For Silence ultimately is a longing for solace in a time of nightmarish anxiety, confusion, and unfamiliarity,” explains Chris Matthews. “Even the faces of close friends became distorted and mangled, as I watched them disappear within themselves.”
Songs For Silence is out December 9th via Milk + Gum. It is available here. Keep up with Year of Suns here.
