Hydra Head closes shop after 17 years

Sad news comes on Tuesday, September 11 2012. After nearly two decades, Hydra Head Records announced it’s closing shop. The label hit irreconcilable financial troubles recently and plans to stop new releases after December 2012. However, the company still plans to maintain their back catalogue into at least part of the upcoming 2013 year. The label was founded in 1995 and has been producing underground artists ever since.

In a statement by Hydra Head’s owner, Aaron Turner, he announced a sell off of all old releases and merch items bundled and on sale at their direct mail order site as well as specific individual material at their webstore. In the meantime, Turner asked for a monetary bump from anyone willing to bail out the label writing, “In all honesty we are in need of financial assistance from anyone and everyone who's willing to throw us a rope. Though it is highly unlikely we'll be able to resuscitate the label, we do wish to follow through on the final round of releases to which we're committed and pay off our debts to our artists and manufacturers.”

Turner offered a thank you those involved with HH records in an emotional final send off, “There is no way to sum up nearly 20 years of incredibly important music, experiences, and evolution other than to say a big heart felt 'thank you', and that we hope this closing will provide an opening into other even more positive and rewarding experiences for all of us and all of you who have been a part of our shared experience. For now we bid you all a very fond farewell….”

We wish Hydra Head Records and its artists luck in the upcoming months.
