In a Facebook post on the band’s page published at 11:41 am EST on Wednesday September 16, 2015 Krill announced its break up. Currently the Impose office is feeling like that time Steve heard Pile in Malden.
After four albums that includes 2015’s A Distant Fist Unclenching, Krill determined it could be Krill no longer:

Formed in Allston, before the basement shows in Boston became the stuff of indie folklore, Krill consisted of drummer Ian Becker, guitarist Aaron Ratoff, and bassist Jonah Furman. In a cover story for Impose earlier this year Krill super fan Loren DiBlasi wrote about the cult of Krill and why the world is a more tolerable place with the music. DiBlasi wrote “with Krill, even the dullest moments can be noteworthy, because they’re injected with the band’s signature blend of intelligence and dry, eccentric humor.”
Exploding in Sound’s Dan Goldin gave the following statement regarding the break up:
I’ve known about the Krill break up for about a week or so now and not a moment has gone by where I haven’t hoped they’d change their mind. With the announcement this morning I guess it’s all too real. Krill are one of the best band’s on the planet and they will be dearly missed. Over the years we’ve worked with them and since they’ve been a band, they’ve only gotten impossibly better with every release, and the new songs they’ve been playing live are unreal. It’s been’s an unspeakable honor and pleasure to work with them and while I suppose I “respect their decision,” I also think we’re losing one of the best bands we’ve had the pleasure of working with and I’ll eagerly await what the future holds for them. What ever happened to all this Krill Forever mumbo jumbo? In all seriousness though, it’s been a real thrill to be able to have Krill part of the label and I still can’t really believe they chose to work with us but we’re thankful for our time together and they will always be EIS family.
Impose would like to thank Krill for that one time we toured the Pacific Northwest together and the numerous SXSW and Brooklyn showcases they performed. We’d also like to thank them for documenting their first European tour for our Shot by the Band series.
Krill will play two Farewell shows in October. The dates are below:
