In a psych-goth sprawling new track, TV Ghost attempts to accomplish the impossible in the age of fast, burned-out mp3s: they want to extend the thrill. In “Elevator”—appropriately titled, of course—the group splays out a buildup so large and ethereal that you'd think the burn would never stop. It feels like classic rock taking a darker turn—you can imagine listening to this while dazing out on a large meadow, only in this edition of the memory, you're wearing all black and feeling slightly itchy. Five full minutes of spacey gothrock with a Robert Smith vocal makes for a questionable connection to reality.
