HØØNCH Debuts “Beat Goes Drop”, Wants to Live In Outer Space

Post Author:

Summer might be winding down, but we’re ready to party a little bit longer with this new track from HØØNCH. Comprised of Jonathan Kim and Gabriel Nava Rodrigues, this new indie-electronic trio is burning it up on the west coast with their synth-based dance tracks. Now, they’re ready to take on the world. We’ve got the exclusive premiere of their latest single “Beat Goes Drop”.

Upbeat, intense, and fun, this song begins like your favorite warm weather 80’s track. The light, ethereal vocals coincide perfectly with the tappy, staccato percussion and the fun, alien-like sound effects. HØØNCH might claim that they need our love on this track, but we’re pretty sure we need this song to keep the feel good vibes going into the coming weeks.

Where did the name HØØNCH come from?

It was kind of an impromptu name because we didn’t have much time to come up with one.  It has roots from ancient asian etymology closely meaning discernment and wisdom which we wanted to portray in our work.

Your Facebook bio describes you as indie-electronic. How would you describe your music?

That’s the best we can describe it for now but our sound is ever-evolving so we could be country trip hop reggae tomorrow.

Where do you guys draw inspiration from?

Mostly from past events and self help literature.

“Lost 2.0″ is AMAZING. What’s the story behind it?

Originally recorded it with Captain Cuts (Grouplove, Walk the Moon) and then re-recorded it with our producer Josh Monroy.  It’s a song about a personal event where one literally steps into adulthood.

LOVE the lyric video. Any plans to make a music video for it, or any other single?

Were still figuring that one out.

What has been your favorite moment since HØØNCH came to be?

Anytime someone who digs the music is inspired or affected positively.  It means a lot to us when fans share how our music touched them.

What do you want people to take away from your music?

A lot of the times I write music as a form of self therapy whether it be to help depression, overcome addictions, or provide empowerment or comfort to myself.  My hope is that the same things I’m feeling when the song is being written is the same feeling that the listener can connect with.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

My power would be the power to instantly be friends with anyone because then if you were friends with everyone you would never have any enemies and you could always get free meals at restaurants or at least a discount.

Where do you guys see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully in outer space.
