San Diego garage-rockers deliver fuzzy, infectious new single
Ignant Benches is one of a handful of young, garage-y alt-rock bands anchoring the San Diego music scene right now. Emphatic hooks, rollicking lo-fi riffs, and old-school melodies consume their recorded output, and their thrilling live sets have made them a favorite on the local DIY/house show circuit. Last year’s Wishful Thinking (At It’s Best) was a promising debut LP, and now the group is continuing their roll with their latest single – the lush, groovy “Mephisto’s Waltz.”
Buoyant and fuzzy guitar riffs, shimmering rhythms and a dash of doo-wop melodies swirl around singer Anson Kelly’s longing Casablancas-like croon. The track ebbs and flows in infectious ways, packing on the nostalgic vibes with its mesmerizing basslines and reverb-soaked production. It definitely feels like a sign of big things to come for Ignant Benches in 2020. Give “Mephisto’s Waltz” a spin below.
