Stoke-on-Trent alt-rockers return with spirited new single

Fast becoming known for their visceral brand of alt-rock, Stoke-on-Trent five-piece Psyence return with the powerful new single “Retrospect.” Released via Black Belt Recordings, it’s a nuanced track with bubbling synth lines and an undeniable pop hook. Though born and raised in the U.K., we can hear a distinctive U.S. influence coursing throughout the track.

Originally formed by four schoolmates, Psyence now consists of Steve Pye (lead vocals and guitars), Jamie (Jay) Bellingham (bass), Joe Walsh (drums), Ben Nixon (keys and synths) and Jamie Cartlidge (rhythm guitar and vocals). The subjects for their music are ever-changing, but they strive to represent a strong working class ethic throughout their music and stay true to their Northern roots. “Retrospect” stands as a potent metaphor for the difficult times we all now endure.

“Everyone gets down, everyone gets fed up, but this is an anthem to make you think back and realize, it’s not all that bad. A bitter end can also be a new beginning,” Jay shared.
