Viva Radio‘s Matt Werth wraps up a noisy weekend in Copenhagen with CFCF, Amazing Bullit Band, Mikkel Lomborg, Tim Sweeney, Dirty Soundsystem and Supermayer.
Saturday, June 6th
All good things must come to an insane end. Day four was no exception to the “rock (or rave) n’ roll all night party everyday” attitude adopted by attendees of the 2009 Distortion Festival.
A voiceless festival organizer, Thomas Fleurguin, greeted me on Saturday afternoon at the Viva Radio party under the Knippelsboro Bridge recounting the early AM excursion from Friday night’s venue via the “rave bus” to an after after party in the middle of a field far away from police reach. Fleurquin’s mantra to make Distortion the vigilante Sonar Festival of Copenhagen is undeniable in its tenacity alone.
Montreal remix master and Viva Radio DJ CFCF manned the helm at the party which included a sit down steak dinner and a performance by the trashy two piece Amazing Bullit Band on the Søsætning UC3 Nautilus, the “largest handmade submarine in the world”.

To make sure there was no question of absurdity, the party disbanded as the sun set around 9:30 PM for a One Minute Rave atop the parting bridge. While Danish opera singer Mikkel Lomborg (a dead ringer for a Bad Seeds member and host of a nationally televised children’s program) serenaded from the roof of the ubiquitous rave bus, a few hundred devilish party revelers jammed traffic for a little more than 60 seconds.
To solidify the experience, our group took the twenty minute bus from the bridge to the Club Clash party at Enghavevej 80 where Beats In Space head cadet Tim Sweeney and French disco-edit mavens Dirty Soundsystem riled the crowd with stunning showings before Supermayer’s super manic closing festival set. Of course, the party couldn’t end like that but I wasn’t quite prepared for the rave bus exodus into the sun. Distorted, slanted, and enchanted, my four days in Copenhagen were over.
