Party with Tables at BKLYN Yard

With Boogie Boarder, Air Waves, Psychic Ills, Screaming Females, Future Islands, Silver Summit, Zs, and Sharon Van Etten

A few months ago we came to a crossroads in the way we think about love, life, and parties. Tables, we muttered, barely able to contain excitement over what would inevitably send ripples through the societal fabric for generations to come. A party… with tables. And so, on Saturday, August 29, 2009, we arrived at the age where our favorite bands play beside some of our favorite people who make jewelry and clothes and posters and sell records and even when we were told “this has been done before, my friend,” we heard nothing, because this was a party with tables.

By the end of the day we were proud of our 9am last-minute decision that amounted to a Braveheart “HOLD!” pattern and kept the party outside at BKLYN Yard despite rain battering Brooklyn through 2pm: the sun squinted out from Sharon Van Etten on through Zs, and while the wind picked up ominously, it was only to herald the approach of Screaming Female’s furious squall and the raunchiest Psychic Ills set on memory. (We think this is because they are dressing their songs up appropriately to open up for Butthole Surfers.)
