Yeasayer, The Casbah, San Diego CA

On their first proper tour of the states, Yeasayer managed to sneak a quick set in San Diego this past Friday night (January 25), marking their first performance in California. The Brooklyn-based quartet has been on a co-headlining tour with MGMT, and after a less than savory show in Phoenix, Arizona, the rain filled skies of southern California were a welcome sight. “It was an all-ages show,” explained vocalist Chris Keating about the previous night’s show in Phoenix. “I told a joke about John McCain and I started getting heckled by a bunch of sixteen-year-old girls!”

With local support Calico Horse going on first and MGMT pulling the early set on this stop of the tour, Yeasayer took to the stage of The Casbah just a few minutes after 11:30 PM, and a executed a flawless set of tunes off their Now We Are Free debut, All Hour Cymbals. After finishing their set, the band was coaxed back on stage to give the crowd some jewelry for their Mama, wrapping things up roughly around 1am Pacific Standard Time.

Their first show in California was a rowdy and successful evening, and after a brief rest and some merch sales, Yeasayer loaded up their gear and began traveling their two hour trip up Interstate 5 North towards Los Angeles. With their tour schedule extending through March and heading overseas for a third time, Yeasayer are definitely a live act that’s worth the price of admission. Protect your neck.
