Monster Movie is a shoegaze supergroup, featuring members of Slowdive, Casket Girls and Air Formation. The band’s new album Keep The Voices Distant kicks it old school, piecing together a ten track record of gloriously reverberant, classic shoegaze/post punk gems. As early as the album’s first track, “Trapped,” we’re thrusted into a gorgeous wall of sound, featuring massive, fuzzed out distortion coming from two distinct guitarists, noisy bass and dreamy drum work. In “Shouldn’t Stray From The Shadows” the noise builds up, lending itself to something head bang worthy.
Lyrically Keep The Voices Distant plays it relatively simple, playing with themes vaguely inspired by horror movies. It is a collection of songs that are ultimately strongest in the band’s ability to create a lot of sound in unique way in each track. The distortion tells the real story. And that’s a good thing.
Keep The Voices Distant is the first Monster Movie album in seven years. It will be out March 31st, and is available for preorder now.
