ADVAETA, “Newo”

Post Author: JP Basileo

Musicians increasingly prefer film over digital recording for their music videos, and all the better for them. Brooklyn fuzz trio ADVAETA have a new video for their track, “Newo”, off this year’s Death and the Internet, and, even as a YouTube file, it might as well be viewed on an 80’s box TV through a VCR. The video, directed by ADVAETA’s own A/S/L visual art collective, alongside Ginny Benson, is as mystical as the sound, which utilizes delay and fuzz pedals in such a way that brings parallel universes to life. Animations in neon coatings flood over the individual members of the band, filmed primarily in negatives, among woodsy and riotous landscapes alike. Psychedelic dancing, unprovoked screaming, and calm gazes constitute the primary actions of the band, but taken with the added effects, an otherworldliness and other-timeliness, are achieved. The colors and introspectiveness of the video play as though the band wants to achieve a tangible effect of listening to their music with you palms pressing against your closed eyes, creating those flowers of color.
