After releasing the world's most hyped-up record, Anxiety, on Software Recording Co. / Mexican Summer, the digiwebs waited anxiously for a video release by Arthur Ashin's Autre Ne Veut and sure enough, here it is. It's important to first establish that the video was produced by Urban Outfitters. Just—let's get that out of the way.
The video takes us through a sad karaoke scene with frontman Ashin appearing in varying stages of distress. According to the blog writeup on Urban Outfitters' site, Ashin wanted the video to be a "meditation on paranoia." With several TV screens lined up like a firing squad, round, unblinking eyes, and a projection of a larger-than-life Ashin singing along behind the real guy, the mood is a disorienting and sad one. The colors are rich yet cold, and given the heightened density of the song, there is little need for a ton of storyline.
Autre Ne Veut is on tour now and if you missed the NYC show, check out our photos here.
