David Dallas, "Fit In"

Post Author: Andre G

Four years after dropping his Falling Into Place album, New Zealand hip-hop stalwart David Dallas is back with the much-anticipated Hood Country Club. What can we expect from the Duck Down repper’s fourth studio album? Based on the mission statement of his first single, the smooth “Fit In,” conformity isn’t on the list. Over a velvety trip-hop production, Dallas lets it be known that he’s “done trying to fit in” with the trend-whores and wave riders he’s come across.
Dallas has noted that he looked to channel the “two-step/garage sound” of early ’00s Craig David on “Fit In,” which was produced by Melbourne based beatsmiths Styalz Fuego and Nic M.
The James K. Lowe-directed video shows Dallas cruising through what looks to be the New Zealand countryside in a old-school Commodore Wagon. He’s in the driver seat as he drops intricate, rapid-fire bars about separating himself from the pack, anchored by powerful vocals from British singer Laurent John.
Hood Country Club is out, available on all digital retailers. You can stream on Spotify here.
