While we’re a bit dismayed that it took a mention in Rolling Stone to get “Democracy Now!” to notice Downtown Boys, the band that has been ripping up DIY stages finally made their way to bae Amy Goodman’s set to do what they do best: perform and educate.
Touching on an array of topics ranging from Black Lives Matter to the inadequacies of our healthcare system to hotel workers’ wages (something they are very familiar with), vocalist Victoria Ruiz and guitarist Joey DeFrancesco (who also make up the Malportado Kids) sat down with Goodman to explain the message Downtown Boys deliver on a regular basis at their shows and on their newest LP, Full Communism. The conversation took place around the full band’s performance of four tracks from the record: “Monstro”, “Wave of History”, “100% Inheritance Tax”, and “Future Police.”
