Lake, “Perfect Fit”

Over the years, marriage and domesticity have played a marked role in indie music culture, both thematically and behind-the-scenes. From John Darnielle's tormented ode to marriage, "No Children," to the slew of married couple duos like Mates of State, Arcade Fire, and The White Stripes, we've never been short on reminders that marriage is a thing musicians are thinking about/wanting us to think about via their work. Lake serves up a jokey, satirical take on domestic realism in their new video for "Perfect Fit," a satisfying, xylophone-sprinkled pop schmaltz-fest featuring band members, Ashley Eriksson and Eli Moore (who are married in real life!) playing the couple, carrying out everyday married-life cliches on an exaggerated scale: their house contains mountains of pancakes and laundry, in comical excess. The track comes from Lake's newly released The World is Real, out now on K Records. Remaining West Coast tour dates below.
